All we do should point to Jesus, not back to us!
Reflecting on a song by casting Crowns:
Only Jesus

All the kingdoms built, all the trophies won
Will crumble into dust when it’s said and done
‘Cause all that really matters
Did I live the truth to the ones I love?
Was my life the proof that there is only One
Whose name will last forever? And I-I-I… I don’t want to leave a legacy
I don’t care if they remember me
Only Jesus
And I-I-I… I’ve only got one life to live
I’ll let every second point to Him
Only Jesus
We gather around on Christmas day, to fellowship with the ones we love. The table is full of wonderfully prepared food, and drinks. We hold hands, close our eyes, and give a quick prayer to God. We give thanks for all His blessings in our lives.
Yet, after praying, when we open our eyes, there is a sense within me, that some that are gathered together MAY think, “glad that is over, let’s get with the eating, fun, and festivities.”
After the food comes the gifts. We gather around the Christmas tree and start opening presents. To see the faces of those around us light up when we see the wonderful THINGS we were presented with.
It is a wonderful thing to see happiness and joy in the ones we love, specially little children. We work hard all year long to provide for them, to ensure their well being, emotionally, physically, and mental.
After the gifts are open and the festivities wane, we go back to our grinding, to make a career, and a name for ourselves. Christmas is left behind. We strive to work hard so we can leave a legacy to the ones we leave behind when we are gone.
Yet, the song referenced hits me hard in my soul! How will the ones I love remember me when I am gone?
Will my loved ones remember me by:
My hard work and been a wonderful provider?
My jokes?
My music, dancing?
The material things I gave them?
The parties?
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Or will they remember me by how I lived my life?
Was there something in me that they wondered about, something peculiar?
Did I set an example that they can follow. An example that will point them to the way, the truth, and the life?
Jesus!
John 14:6
I am not talking about religion, for religion is found every where in the world. I am talking about living a life of FAITH in the only name that is above all names in heaven and on earth!
Jesus!
Phillipians 2:9-11
I love my family and all the people that God places on my path to love. I want them to be in heaven with me, where true happiness, joy, and well being is, forever. I want them to be interested in the Holy Bible. To read it, ask questions, seek answers. The Holy Bible IS God’s Love Letter and guidance for us. I love to read it and love to share in the understanding.
Nothing brings me more joy that when someone asks me questions about a passage in the Bible. The Holy Bible is ALL about Jesus and His love for us!
But sadly, some look for happiness in this world’s system and their own understanding. Many go on believing lies that tell them Christianity has no power and all it does is keep you from having fun and enjoying this life.
I feel powerless sometimes, powerless in pointing them to Jesus. I feel I cannot compete with the fun this world provides us or the pleasures we find in it. I also feel powerless when I myself fall victim to sin and they see my frailty.
Yet, when I die, I do not want to be remembered like the world remembers their dead. Not only will I like to ensure my loved ones well being, emotionally, physically, mentally, but also spiritually.
Was I a priest to them?
I will like to be remember as the guy that pointed his finger to the cross and said, FOLLOW JESUS!
1 Corinthians 2:2
Christmas is only about this and nothing else:
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Galatians 4:4-7
It is about the greatest gift humanity has received.
Have you opened THE GIFT yet?
Abba, Father!
Thank you for being a wonderful God! Thank you for sending Jesus to rescue us from ourselves and our sin. I pray that you empower us to point the ones we love to Jesus, the reason for our Christmas celebrations. There is nothing more important than this. To believe, trust, and have faith in Your Son. Out lives are short, I pray you open the eyes of those that do not yet see the truth. I pray our message will point to ONLY JESUS!
I pray in the name of Jesus,
Amen!
