Anchor

“Can He find me here, can He keep me from going under?”

In this edition of my blog, I reflect on a song by Casting Crowns, “Oh My Soul.” Click HERE to see the lyrics video.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am so glad that when I get up in the morning, my feet touch the ground and stay grounded, thanks to the law of gravity. It will be terrible if I start to float into the air and have no control over what my next course of action will be. This force that God created, this gravity, acts as an anchor to our physical bodies so that we will not wander off aimlessly. Unfortunately, this is not the case in some of our lives; from infant to old age, some wander with no clear goals, purpose, or hope for the future. Even when we think we have found the answer, a storm comes and ravages our lives, and we start to despair.

Today we have GPS systems that make it easy to go from point A to point B without getting lost. In the past, without GPS, sailors used the lighthouses, stars, constellations, the sun, and the moon for guidance. These objects provided a fixpoint (anchor) from which to navigate. Imagine that the sun started to set in the east and rise in the west for a moment. The anchor will no longer be suitable.

What does the Holy Bible say?

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
Matthew 9:35-36

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, Hebrews 6:19

What does this mean?

Since the fall of man at the Garden of Eden, man has been wandering away from his Creator. In His loving kindness, God provided anchors (judges, kings, prophets, priests, etc.). Unfortunately, these anchors were temporary, fragile, and due to change, which created mistrust. How can we trust someone who says something today and then says something different tomorrow?

These temporary anchors kept the light shining until the unchangeable, sure, and the steadfast anchor appeared. As we read above, this Anchor is the Lord Jesus Christ; He was moved with compassion upon seeing many souls wandering without a true shepherd.

In Hebrews 6:19, we know that Jesus is the steadfast anchor, unmovable, unchanging, and therefore, we can trust Him with our lives. Just like we can trust the laws of nature that God instituted, we can trust Jesus to keep us grounded and rooted in the faith.

The apostle Paul explained this in Ephesians on how we, by faith and through the Holy Spirit, can be anchored:

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:14-19

What does this mean to me?

In the song referenced at the start of this blog, the singer asks, “Can He keep me from going under?”

Yes, He can!

What must I do?

Be born again by the Holy Spirit. God, the Holy Spirit, seals your soul until our redemption day comes.

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:5-8

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,  who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:13:14

Trust the Lord Jesus Christ, read His Word DAILY, and have faith that what He says will come to pass.

In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:2-6

Hope on the Lord and Wait for Him

But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:21

Pray without seizing

rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;
Romans 12:12

Just like gravity keeps us grounded, Jesus Christ is THE ANCHOR of our soul. Therefore, we can trust Him for deliverance. God seals us once we are in Christ; thus, let us hope in God.

Abba, Father,

We thank you and praise you for being the God that never changes. We can trust your Word. Your Word is Truth; your Word is living, sharper than any two-edged sword. Your Word proceeds from your mouth and will not return to you empty. It will accomplish what you intended. Your Word is a lamp unto my feet, and light into my path. We stand on your promises because they will come to pass as surely as the sun will rise in the morning. Thank you for Your Salvation, thank you for Your Holy Spirit, and thank you for Your Presence.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ,

Amen!

To God, be the glory!

Everything was created By Him, For Him!

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-25

I write my blogs as I get inspired by God. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans In Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible.
